Anderson Lloyd recognised at Australasian Women in Business Law Awards
Anderson Lloyd was recognised at the Australasian Women in Business Law Awards recently in Sydney, taking out the award for best firm in Christchurch.
Partner Jen Crawford, who attended the awards ceremony, was thrilled with the win. “Women are excelling at Anderson Lloyd. The Award is testament to our strong Partners and the rising stars coming through our ranks.”
Anderson Lloyd Chief Executive Richard Greenaway says the firm is proud of its longstanding reputation for promoting and supporting women into senior roles. “While approximately two-thirds of lawyers leaving New Zealand law schools are women, this statistic is not generally reflected in the senior ranks of law firms. At Anderson Lloyd however, our women lawyers make up 35 percent of our Owners and the majority of our senior lawyers. This ratio is unique in an industry where men, on average, are over-represented at that higher level.”
The Award also recognises Anderson Lloyd’s strength in and contribution to Christchurch. “It is an exciting time in Christchurch and we are really optimistic about the rebuild and the wider Canterbury economy. Anderson Lloyd is at the cutting edge of Christchurch legal issues and contributing to the city’s future in a lot of ways” says Jen Crawford, who is also Chair of the Arts Centre of Christchurch Trust Board. The Trust Board is undertaking what has been described as the largest heritage restoration project in the world.
Corporate commercial Partner Anne McLeod says “The Award highlights the fact that we have done really well at getting women through the ranks. All of us who have made partner have not been treated any differently along the way, and this level of equal opportunity and career advancement is really important.”
The Awards celebrate firms with the best initiatives for gender diversity, innovation, mentoring, work-life balance, pro bono work and talent management. The focus is not only the best initiatives but those that were implemented most effectively. Anderson Lloyd was shortlisted in another five categories – Best Australasian Firm for Work-Life Balance, Pro-Bono Work, and Talent Management, Best Gender Diversity Initiative by an Australasian Firm and Best New Zealand Firm for Women in Business Law.
