Auckland Unitary Plan Approved for Notification
The Auckland Council has now made the final decision on changes to the Draft Auckland Unitary Plan (“the Unitary Plan”). During the informal consultation period the Council received more than 22,000 pieces of feedback. This feedback was assessed by the Council and Local Board Chairs through a series of 22 workshops during July and August, with changes decided during five days of formal committee meetings.
The Unitary Plan is to be notified on 30 September 2013. The next stage in the process is the formal submission phase, which starts on the date of notification. This process is set out by the Resource Management Act and allows 90 days for submissions to be made. After submissions have closed the hearings phase will begin, which is expected to take place over approximately three years.
From 30 September the Unitary Plan will be available online at the Auckland Council website.
It is critical to submit on the Unitary Plan if you want any changes to be made to it. The due date for submissions is 28 February 2014.
