Anderson Lloyd has a proven track record advising a number of primary, secondary and tertiary education providers, and offers a high level of knowledge to education sector legal issues.
Our lawyers have advised several tertiary level institutions on a variety of education and employment law matters, including dealing with staff and student disciplinary matters, enrolments, visas, and complaints. This requires an understanding of the Education Act and its application at the tertiary level as well as employment law and other relevant legislation such as the State Sector Act.
Anderson Lloyd has experience managing investigations for the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) into Tertiary Education Organisations (TEOs) and Industry Training Organisations (ITOs). This has involved an assessing TEC funding rule breaches and NZQA programme delivery. We have also advised clients in respect of joint venture funding with TEOs.
Anderson Lloyd advises a number of primary and secondary schools. We are experienced advising school executive functions with a few of our lawyers holding places on primary school and residential college boards. These residential colleges are affiliated to the University of Otago, and attract domestic and international university and polytechnic students.
Anderson Lloyd has extensive experience in respect of student matters. In addition, Fiona McMillan, a senior associate in our litigation team is the designated lawyer for the NZ Principals Federation principals’ advice and support scheme, and provides advice to principals throughout New Zealand. She recently reviewed the template complaints and concerns policy and procedures for a client who provides policies to schools throughout New Zealand.
