New President for the Resource Management Law Association of New Zealand Inc.
Maree Baker-Galloway, Partner at Anderson Lloyd, specialising in environmental law and based in Queenstown, was elected President of the Resource Management Law Association of New Zealand Inc (RMLA), at the Association’s recent annual conference held in Tauranga.
Maree has been a member of the Association’s National Committee since 2006, holding the position of Treasurer on the Executive for the last two years. Maree has held many portfolios on the National Committee, but more recently has been directly and actively involved in the Association’s Strategic Relations portfolio and the Legislation and Special Interest Group portfolios assisting in maintaining vital relationships with our key stakeholders and providing valuable assistance in drafting submissions on various legal and policy initiatives.
The Association, which represents professionals from a wide range of disciplines, plays an important role in all aspects of resource management and aims to promote within New Zealand an understanding of resource management law and its implementation in a multi-disciplinary framework; excellence in resource management policy and practice; resource management processes which are legally sound, effective and efficient and which produce high quality environmental outcomes.
Maree is a Partner in Anderson Lloyd’s Queenstown office, having transferred recently from Dunedin. Her legal career began in Wanganui with the Crown Solicitor’s office.
Maree works across a broad spectrum of environmental law including the RMA and beyond, such as the Conservation Act, Marine Reserves Act, Housing Accord and Special Housing Areas Act and the special legislative processes in place for Auckland and Canterbury. She is actively involved in the evolving practice of collaborative decision making in the environmental space, chairing the marine protection forum convened by the Ministers of Conservation and Primary Industry, which is tasked with coming up with a consensus on marine protection reforms for the coastline from Timaru To Waipapa Point in Southland.
Maree recently co-authored the text “Focus on Resource Management Law” and presents on a wide range of topics to the resource management legal and planning professions around the country.
