Geoff has particular expertise in acquisition, project, corporate, structured and property finance and debt capital markets transactions.
Geoff acts regularly for international and domestic banks, financial institutions and borrowers/issuers on high profile transactions across a range of sectors. He also provides general banking and finance advice, including advising on debt restructuring and insolvency and financial services regulatory issues.
Geoff has practiced for 26 years in Auckland, London (Clifford Chance) and Sydney (Mallesons), and since 2004 has been a partner of MinterEllisonRuddWatts, Russell McVeagh and (from 2014) Anderson Lloyd.
Geoff is recognised as a leading New Zealand lawyer in banking and finance, project finance and/or capital markets: structured finance by the most recent editions of Chambers & Partners (Asia Pacific), The Legal 500 (Asia Pacific), IFLR 1000, Who’s Who Legal, Best Lawyers, asialaw Profiles and Expert Guides.
Chambers & Partners (Asia Pacific) 2018 (rating “Band 1” Banking and Finance lawyer) states that Geoff is a “very responsive, technically strong” practitioner. A previous edition stated that he is praised by clients as a “very experienced banking lawyer who is always effective at getting the deal done, and is responsive and calm under pressure”, and that peers report “he is a strong, technical and user-friendly lawyer”.
