Geoff heads Anderson Lloyd’s Banking & Finance team. He has particular expertise in acquisition, project, corporate, structured and property finance and debt capital markets transactions.
Geoff acts regularly for international and domestic banks, financial institutions and borrowers/issuers on high profile transactions across a range of sectors. He also provides general banking and finance advice, including advising on debt restructuring and insolvency and financial services regulatory issues.
Geoff has practiced for 28 years in Auckland, London and Sydney, and became a law firm partner in 2004.
Geoff is recognised as a leading New Zealand lawyer in banking and finance, project finance and/or capital markets: structured finance by the most recent editions of Chambers & Partners (Asia Pacific), The Legal 500 (Asia Pacific), IFLR 1000, Who’s Who Legal, Best Lawyers, asialaw Profiles and Expert Guides. Best Lawyers (2020 edition) awarded him ‘Lawyer of the Year for Banking and Finance Law (Auckland)’.
The Legal 500 (Asia Pacific) 2021 notes that Geoff is “a leading figure in the NZ banking market and clients have 100% confidence in his advice”. A previous edition stated that he is a “pragmatic dealmaker” and “an excellent operator who has worked exceptionally hard to establish a finance practice on a par with the largest players in the market’. Chambers & Partners (Asia Pacific) has stated that Geoff is praised by clients as a “very experienced banking lawyer who is always effective at getting the deal done, and is responsive and calm under pressure”, and that peers report “he is a strong, technical and user-friendly lawyer”.
Geoff is a member of the New Zealand organising committee of the Asia Pacific Loan Market Association, the Banking and Financial Services Law Association, the Institute of Finance Professionals New Zealand and the New Zealand Private Capital Association Inc.
