Awhina Clark-Tahana

Awhina is an Associate in our Dispute Resolution team and specialises in civil litigation. She began with Anderson Lloyd as a Law Clerk in our Dunedin office in February 2019, and progressed to Solicitor after being admitted to the bar in July the same year.

Awhina studied at the University of Otago and graduated with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in History).

Awhina has significant experience in trust and estate dispute resolution, property and contractual claims, judicial review claims, and debt recovery and insolvency matters. She also has significant experience representing iwi in both the High Court, Court of Appeal and Waitangi Tribunal on complex issues involving tikanga. She also acts for local government clients assisting them with a variety of disputes, including defending urgent injunctive relief applications.

Awhina regularly acts for insurers and insured parties under professional indemnity and statutory liability policies, and has significant experience acting for and against professionals defending professional negligence claims and complaints.

Awhina is a Committee member of the Otago Women Lawyers’ Society, member of Te Hunga Rōia Māori o Aotearoa/ New Zealand Māori Law Society, and Dunedin Young Professionals
