Barbara Lomas

Barbara is an experienced construction lawyer with a broad range of experience in construction, engineering and infrastructure projects. Her practice focuses on construction contracting, consultancy agreements and procurement, advising principals, contractors, consultants and other project participants on the development and negotiation of project documentation.

Her areas of expertise include construction and design and construct contracts, consultancy and professional services agreements, operation and maintenance agreements, early contractor involvement and pre-construction arrangements, and supply and installation contracts. Barbara has extensive experience with NZS 3910 and NZS 3916 contracts and also advises on FIDIC and bespoke contracting arrangements.

Barbara’s work spans a range of sectors, including renewable energy, commercial and industrial development, aviation and transport, and other infrastructure projects. She has advised on wind and solar farm projects, hydroelectric infrastructure and upgrades, and FIDIC and other supply and installation arrangements for specialist engineering and process equipment, including ski field ropeways and chairlifts, food processing and packaging lines and manufacturing equipment.

Before joining Anderson Lloyd in 2018, Barbara practised at Baker & McKenzie in Melbourne and Singapore and worked in-house as legal counsel for global engineering firm ARUP in New York. She has also worked on PPP road and rail projects in Melbourne and Canada.

Barbara graduated from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Laws (Hons, Environmental Law) and Bachelor of Social Sciences (Geography).

Barbara is a member of the Society of Construction Law New Zealand, Infrastructure New Zealand, the Women’s Infrastructure Network and the National Association of Women in Construction.
