Ben is a Partner in Anderson Lloyd’s Environment, Planning and Resource Management team based in Christchurch. He specialises in rural environmental, regulatory and planning matters, with particular expertise in freshwater and nutrient management. He also has expertise in iwi engagement.

Ben brings extensive experience advising infrastructure providers, farming interests, irrigation companies, and major primary sector clients across New Zealand. He has also acted for Papatipu Rūnanga in relation to various resource consent processes. He is known for his practical, solution-focused approach and for helping clients navigate complex legislative and regulatory landscapes with efficiency and clarity. Ben has appeared in numerous cases and hearings, and he regularly advises on plan changes, resource consents, compliance matters and judicial reviews. He has acted for clients including Fonterra, various irrigation interests and community irrigation schemes, Dairy Holdings, the Hekeao Hinds Plains Water Enhancement Trust and, various Papatipu Rūnanga.

Ben joined Anderson Lloyd in September 2025 after more than 20 years at another national law firm, bringing extensive leadership experience in advising clients across the primary sector and iwi engagement. His work has supported major rural development projects and infrastructure upgrades throughout Canterbury and wider New Zealand. Ben is a member of the Resource Management Law Association and contributes to ongoing legal and policy discussions around climate change, water use, and rural land management.
